Coconut is the fruit of coconut palm. The scientific name is Cocos nucifera. Nucifera means "nut-bearing." Coconut is extremely nutritious and rich in fiber, minerals , and vitamins. It provides many health benefits and used as traditional medicine among Asian and Pacific population. Pacific Islands use coconut oil as a medicine for all diseases . Coconut oil, also recognized as Coconut butter, is vegetable oil extracted from the copra ( dried meat of the coconut ), If the virgin coconut oil is taken from fresh coconut meat, or non-copra. Coconut oil consists of 90% saturated fat and more than a few medium-chain fatty acids. These include lauric acid , myristic acid, palmitic acid, and caprylic acid. It is consist predominately of medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA). Fatty acids is good for health because it does not have a negative effect on cholesterol and help decrease the risk of heart disease. This makes coconut oil so special and so useful.

Coconut oil is used generally in cooking, specifically frying and sautéing. A lot of Asian curries often involving coconut oil as a flavoring. Coconut oil is used to make natural soaps and other health products because of its high fat content. The inherent qualities of coconut oil has assisted it discover applications in the food, personal care and oleochemicals sector. The qualities of coconut oil make it very appropriate for household culinary arrangements. It is more quickly digested than any other fat and also resistant to rancidity because it has a high degree of saturation.

Coconut oil is a part of the family of tropical oils, which also consist of palm, palm kernel, cocoa, and shea nut oils. some people believe that coconut oil in their natural state, can be part of a wholesome diet.
